How hard can it be to put a name tag on and keep it on, she wondered.
If only people weren’t so careless.
Every day they went missing. Pathetic posts on Facebook and especially Next Door appeared. People pleading for help. Just this morning a woman with ten tearful emojis next to her name, who had been bemoaning the loss of her precious Charlie for the last two weeks, posted he was found shot through the head and dumped in a trash can.
Then there were the posters everywhere seeking information about Chelsea. A thousand dollar reward was being offered for any leads concerning her whereabouts. A detailed description was given. Blonde, long hair, brown eyes, all the usual, but apparently Chelsea had no identification on her. The parents were missing their darling for sure.
Why didn’t they think ahead. It’s a crazy world out there. Anything imaginable can happen and sometimes worse.
She felt badly for criticizing the bereaved, but seriously, if you love them, really love them, add them to your Life 360 app and keep track! Eyes on you, kiddo! That’s what good caretaking means.
Miraculously, Mr. Beasley came into her life and there was no way he would ever leave the house without proper identification. In fact he had two electronic devices. One on his neck and one on his butt…just in case. Plus he wore a specialty made vest with studs to ward off any coyotes.
There was no way her mini-schnauzer would ever be untraceable. She had waited so long for her little fur baby. Even though he was never out of site, he always wore a collar and name tag. Eyes on you, Mr. Beasley. Eyes on you.

I wondered at first if this were about lost kids or pets, but I so agree. Enjoyed the writing.
ReplyDeleteI like it. The bit of mystery not knowing if the missing were humans or canines. Well done
ReplyDeleteI did suspect it was pets from the beginning... but waited to see. I feel sad for the other missing ones! Interesting name, "Mr. Beasley." Long may he live and prosper! ---Macoff
